WHERE IT ALL BEGAN
FWP BY Rae (Originally The French Wine Project) was born out of a love for good quality products.
Like everything in life, it’s much nicer if you can rely on products that have been sourced and made with care. Giving thought to both the environment and the quality of the products in hand.
My husband and I launched a wine company 5 years ago doing just that. We lived in France for 5 years and with him being an ex-London restauranteur, and French, together we set out on a mission to find great quality wines from small independent producers and ship them back to the UK. This was the start of, The French Wine Project.
Finding wines to sell may sound like a doddle, and it is fun, as who wouldn’t love to sample delicious wines for a living! But as well as great wine makers, there are also a lot of not so great ones, or over priced, and for this reason we decided we would only choose what we deemed to be the best. Our motto being ‘Quality over quantity’.
WHY CLOTHES WHEN YOU SELL WINE?
As well as loving wine, I have always been a huge follower of fashion. We had to move back to the UK to be close to London and our restaurant buyers, so I embraced the opportunity to branch out and do my own thing on the side.
A lover of a good slogan Tee, I soon had enough inspiration for some designs. Next was finding the right products, and working out the best way to print, and how to.
Whilst trying to find the right products, I also wanted to get an idea of what is involved in printing onto clothing, especially as I wanted a clean, bright and good quality print. Therefore with a friend in tow, I signed up to do a course in screen printing so that I could fully understand the process.
I only buy products from ethical companies, meaning the clothing is made in factories with good working conditions and fair wages, using raw materials of organic cotton, Tencel, Modal or recycled polyester. Organic production systems replenish and maintain soil fertility, reducing the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilisers.
Once the product has been sourced and tried, it is then screen printed here in the UK.
On each of the item pages, is the logo of the certificate showing the relevant recognised Fair trade/organic organisations.
Check out our shop and I hope you love them as much as I do.
